I thought I was a Cheapskate…
In my mind, the word “cheapskate” has a negative connotation, so I decided to look it up:
Cheapskate is defined as a stingy person, a mean, contemptible, or dishonest person.
I’m glad I looked it up, because that is definitely not was I was going for. I thought it meant you were frugal and thrifty.
Ok, class that’s it for vocabulary today, now on to more important things ~
Below you will find a few tips and tricks that have helped me to be frugal and thrifty, not a cheapskate…
Perfume and cologne is expensive! Did you know that when it’s exposed to heat, air or sunlight it immediately begins to change? Refrigerate it! It will last two years and not lose its umph!
Speaking of perfume, samples are a great way to try new fragrances without breaking the bank. There are gobs of samples in magazines. Just tear em’ out and rub! LUCKY and ALLURE magazines both have a lot of samples each month.
Do you wear contacts? My ophthalmologist gave me this tip: Use a no-tears type baby shampoo to remove eye make-up. It reduces the protein buildup on lenses and if you have small children, chances are you have to buy it anyway! Even if you don’t have kids, it’s much cheaper than the department store eye make-up remover.
Debit Merchandise: When someone returns an item to a store for whatever reason, it’s called “debit merchandise”. Some retail savvy friends gave me this tip, always ask managers of your favorite stores if their debit merchandise is available for sale. They get rid of it and you get it for pennies on the dollar!
I LOVE wrapping gifts for the holidays! Last year I wrapped everything in that super-cheap brown kraft paper. Then went crazy with funky ribbons on some, rubber-stamp images and stickers on others. My nephew wrapped all his gifts in newspaper, with no name tags. Each gift was wrapped with the horoscope section, your sign was circled… So if you saw a gift with Aquarius circled, that gift was mine!
Pretty creative huh!!
